Well, I do understand how you feel about these uncertain times. I’m much older than you both and I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly but nothing has prepared me for now. I just got a notification that the US has bombed three nuclear sites in Iran. I don’t know how to process all that’s happening these days but my first thought is to crawl into bed and pull the covers over my head. That’s why I loved you site so much—it was an amazing diversion from all the ugly but I can understand the cost to you. I want whatever is best for you now. I look forward to reading your book and hope that we’ll hear from you down the road!! With love and best wishes….
Thank you Patty. Such kind words, they mean so much to us. I also just saw that on the news... makes our problems feel even smaller. We're not going anywhere, but we just need some time out.
A thoughtful read, typical of your content, in that it is direct and honest rather than softened, but written in a way that feels authentic. Having been in this journey with you for nearly 4 years it feels like you both need a moment free from obligation to process and live. I don't know where or when social media turned sharing into an obligation but know that when your emerge again I (the collective we must probably) will still be here in full support. And if you choose that it's not the thing anymore then we definitely had a great journey!
Thank you so much Richard. We aren't going anywhere, we just need to have a timeout so we can recalibrate and refocus our efforts in a direction that's sustainable. :)
I've known you were selling the boat for a few days, since the Patreon announcement, and whatever that leads to, I'm glad you're able to take a breather and decide what you want to do next. I'm sorry we won't see you on YouTube for a while, but I'm glad you're at least thinking about going back to the boat reviews!! I first joined your site during your catamaran review period, and I really enjoyed them. It would be amazing if you decided to start reviewing boats again. There's virtually no trustworthy boat *reviews* on YouTube, because the model used by everyone who boats is to describe only the good features of each boat, in order to gain access to more and more boats. People who will tell us truly what's right with each boat *and what's wrong* with them are very rare.
If you decide to do something else, that's of course all right too. We're interested, but it's your lives. Do what you want with them.
The only thing I would ask is this: no matter what happens, please tell us what you decide? If what you decide is to leave YouTube permanently, please come back to it for long enough to let us know that you won't be returning. Don't just leave us to wonder if we'll hear from you or not.
Thanks for everything you've taught us, and for inviting us into your lives the last 8 years. And congratulations on the book! I can't wait till my preorder arrives.
Hey Naomi– thank you so much for your kind comments and also for pre-ordering the book! Don't worry, we are absolutely not going to just disappear! We just need to take some time out. Boat reviews are something we're keen on, and given we absolutely do NOT have any conflict of interest with reviewing boats– and we're definitely not trying to position ourselves for a deal– we hope to be as objective as possible while being fair. But we'll have to mull that option over a little more.
Yet again well written and very thoughtful, noting ongoing "secret squirrel" stuff to do with the issues surrounding events related to the boat and what lead to the decision to sell.
Also noted the impact all these things have had on your own peace of mind while negotiating these uncertain times.
I’m personally thankful for your resilience, and all the while writing the book. I for one am certainly looking forward to reading the book. Following you and the adventures of you both has and will continue to be a highlight with some hilarious and sometimes, difficult situations.
The book, will be great reference material, and provide deep insight into the sailing life. I’m looking forward to getting my copy of the book (hopefully signed and numbered).
While you both take time to navigate the current events, we (the royal one) are holding you both in high regard as we always do.
Thank you for sharing these times with you and will eagerly be waiting with bated breath for the next instalments.
Congratulations to you both on the book and the break. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey over the years. I’m one of many who have been inspired by you. It was while watching one of your videos about 6 years ago that gave me the nudge to take the plunge and buy a sailboat. I’m so glad I did. It’s my happy place. Thank you.
I wish you the very best. Looking forward to reading your book. Cheers!
Guys, thank you so much for all the laughs and adventures you have taken us on over the years. You’ve inspired me to get into yacht ownership, and your honesty about the challenges and frustrations makes me feel not so alone trying to sort stuff out (sooo much sorting out…). Can totally appreciate you feeling burnt out after taking a passion and tallent and deriving income from it and then the pressure that comes from that. Hopefully stepping back gives you the space and lack of pressure to create again and in new ways. Can’t wait to get my hands on the book!
Thank you for all the years of taking us on your journeys. I am happy that you two are taking time to enjoy yourselves on your schedule. You will be missed. At least I now I will have your book to remember the memories you two gave us.
